Payne Rod Company Beyond the former Payne Plant at
Highland Mills, NY, lie the classic streams in which the brown trout was
first planted and the dry fly first fished in In their time, such
well-remembered men as Dr. Henry Van Dyke, Chancellor Levison, Albert
Hendrickson, and Theodore Gordon (who traded thirty-nine dozen of his
beautiful flies for a Payne rod) propped their feet on a workbench and
discussed the problems created by the new fish and the new fishing - brown
trout and dry fly. Equally famous anglers, and of
course many unknown to fame, come to the new Payne Plant in Bend, Oregon for
the same purpose, although nowadays the rivers of Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Colorado
and California are mentioned, along with those of New York and Pennsylvania,
Canada and New Zealand. And they are still welcome, whether they want to
discuss a rod problem or just look around. In presenting this catalog of the
various types and patterns of Payne rods, we believe we can rightfully assume
that the Payne name has been nationally known for quality ever since the
Payne rod won the Gold Medal awarded at the Columbian Exposition at In this catalog we list only those which are currently popular. As we have served and pleased so many, it is our sincere desire to put into the hands of the new purchaser a Payne rod that not only fits them but is also well chosen for the type of angling they enjoy.
